Requires High Startup Costs

Well, it depends on several factors such as location, size, type of gym, whether you want to take franchise, and so on.

A Gym business is like a brick-and-mortar business where you need space (more the better) at a good location. Besides the location, you need money to do the interiors, get equipment, provide amenities, and hire staff.

You’ll also have recurring operating costs such as rent, electricity, salaries, training, promotion, marketing, and so on.

Yoga Business: Costs of running & marketing a yoga studio in India

Here are few responses from Gym Owners:

Question: How much was the investment in your gym. How do you do the marketing to get clients

We have two branches of our gym. One is in new Rajdhani enclave, Preet Vihar. The Space of that gym is 2400 sqfeet. The rent of that gym is Rs.65000 per month with a increment of 10% rent per year. The total expenditure on fitness equipment was Rs.30 lacs.

The second gym that is in Laxmi Nagar. The area of that gym is 1600 sq feet. Rent of this gym is Rs 30000 .Total expenditure on fitness equipment was Rs 25 lacs.

We promote our gym through pamphlets, conducting bodybuilding competitions and through rallies.

The main challenge is getting capital investment as it requires high amount of money to start your own gym.

Acquire Some Business Skills

So does this scenario scary you?

It doesn’t have to, because you cannot avoid competition. But you need to be realistic about your earnings, and also willing to spend on advertising/promotion.

You’ll also need to acquire some business skills such marketing, management, and use methods such as referral programs, and so on, or hire people who have these skills.

But that would add to the cost, and this business anyways require substantial amount of money to invest.

To Conclude

Owning your own successful gym is possible, no matter how difficult it may seem so. But then you need to be flexible; besides maintaining the high standards you also need to invest time and money in marketing your business, offer incentives & use other promotional tactics. Having a good business plan does help to weather those difficult circumstances.
