
National Nutrition Week 2025 was celebrated in India in the first week of September (Sept 1st to 7th). This week is being celebrated in India since 1982 to promote healthy eating habits.
The theme of the National Nutrition Week for 2025 is “Eat Right, for a better Life”.
This week will focus on increasing awareness about eating a balanced diet, following good food habits, and the prevention of lifestyle-related diseases.
This theme aligns with Government initiatives such as Poshan Abhiyaan and the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) Scheme which are aimed at addressing issues related to malnutrition, obesity, and other nutrient-related diseases.
Improving the nutritional status of the population continues to be a major focus for the government a under nutrition in young children continues to be a major public health problem in India.
Awareness programmes are being held at village level through puppet shows, skits, quiz competitions, dance & dramma, films, slide shows, AV Spots, nutrition rallies, etc. Mini exhibition on nutrition displaying low cost nutritious diets for different age groups is being organized at grassroots level.
Awareness generation on weight management and its importance through Body Mass Index is being held for adolescent boys and girls.
Various Nutritional Programmes in India
- POSHAN Abhiyaan – Focused on reducing stunting, undernutrition, anemia, and low birth weight.
- Mid-Day Meal Scheme (PM-POSHAN) – Ensures nutritious meals for schoolchildren.
- Integrated Child Development Services – Provides supplementary nutrition to children under six and pregnant/lactating women.
- Anganwadi Centres – Conduct nutrition counselling and distribute fortified foods.
