Filmmaker Rohit Shetty, Olympic medalist Saina Nehwal, and former cricketer Harbhajan Singh were felicitated as the new Fit India Icons at the National Fitness & Wellness Conclave 2025. The event, held under the Fit India Mission, celebrated India’s growing fitness and wellness movement as part of the vision for a Fit and Viksit Bharat.

Panel discussions at the conclave emphasized the importance of fitness in realizing India’s development goals, and highlighted the need to instill fitness habits from a young age, monitor misleading supplement advice, and reduce children’s screen time to encourage active lifestyles.

What is the Fit India Movement?

Fit India Movement is a nation-wide campaign aimed at encouraging people in India to indulge in sports and other physical activities in order to improve their fitness and overall well-being. How to start a Fit India School?

In case you are a school or run a fitness education business, you should consider getting a FIT India school certification for your school/fitness education business.

Once you are a FIT India certified school, you would be entitled to use Fit India Logo and Fit India Flag.

You could also choose to get a Fit India Star certification for your school; this certification is provided to bigger schools that employ more PE teachers and sports coaches and devote more hours to fitness/sports.

The best Fit India Star Schools are likely to be felicitated at State level Republic Day and Independence Day functions.

Fit India School Week

Fit India School Week is celebrated in order to create more awareness of fitness among school children, parents, teachers and school staff, which is very important for the success of the Fit India movement.

PM Modi interacts with fitness influencers on ‘Fit India Movement’ first anniversary

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with several fitness influencers on the anniversary of ‘Fit India Movement’. The online ‘Fit India Dialogue’ event was attended by PM Modi, sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, cricketer Virat Kohli, model and avid runner Milind Soman, nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar and other fitness influencers.

During the online session, PM Modi asked several fitness-related queries to the fitness influencers.

Modi asked Virat Kohli about the Yo-Yo test and its importance to assess the fitness of the Indian cricket team.

The prime minister also joked that Delhi’s Chhole Bhature business might be suffering as Kohli has been staying away from his favourite street food. In response, Kohli broke into laughter and said that he had a lot of street food during his growing days, but now the demands of the sport has helped him understand the importance of staying fit.

Companies Use the Movement to Promote New Brands

Several companies are taking cues from Indian prime minister Narendra Modi’s call to promote fitness among Indians (Fit India), in order to promote their brands.

British consumer goods major Reckitt Benckiser launched a new variant of its popular pain relieving brand Moov, which was endorsed by former cricketer Gautam Gambhir. The Moov Advance gel was launched with a social media campaign inspired by the government’s Fit India movement.

“In an endeavour to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ensuring a Fit India, Moov launches #MakeYourMoov challenge with former cricketer Gautam Gambhir,” the company said while launching the campaign.

Indian prime minister Narendra Modi launched the Fit India movement on National Sports Day aimed at mobilising the country’s citizens to participate in sports and other fitness activities.
