Drone racing is becoming a popular sport. You can see more and more people indulging in drone racing nowadays, and it looks as if the popular hobby may soon turn into a competitive sport.
What is preventing drone racing from becoming an actual sport?
The biggest barrier currently that prevents drone racing from becoming an actual sport is the money that is involved. Its extremely difficult for participants to get paid.
Currently, because of lack of income for most people, one is not able to dedicate years, in order to become the best.
However, not all looks gloomy.
A 15 year old won $250,000 at the first ever World Drone Prix that was held in Dubai, and that is not bad to attract more people to Drone racing. In a few years time, it could go on to become a sport.

World Drone Prix
Dubai hosted the first ‘World Drone Prix’, where pilots from all around the world battled it out for a prize money of US$1 million.
Anybody could participate in the competition, it was open to pilots from all the countries, but one needed to submit “American Idol” type qualification videos meeting certain guidelines to gain entry to the competition.
Another thing to note was that the prize money was distributed across various categories – best track team, best lap time, best freestyle team, most innovative drone and crowd favorite (based on spectator votes).
