How soon should I lose weight after having a baby?

Most women gain up to gain up to 20% of their bodyweight during pregnancy. Once the baby is born, this is a common question that most women ask. Its common to see celebrities strutting round in skinny jeans just weeks after they give birth, which can make new mothers anxious. However, that’s not the right benchmark. Instead, moms should gradually try to lose weight.

In fact, experts suggest that instead of worrying about losing body fat, new moms should try to focus more on bonding with their new-born babies, and getting to know them well.

Surveys have found that women can easily feel ashamed of their post-baby bodies, especially when they see those celebrity moms, who are able to quickly lose weight after giving birth.

So when is the best time to get started on a weight loss programme after birth?

Most research show that it’s best to lose baby fat gradually, preferably after three months post pregnancy. And you should also have a more practical approach. Eating healthily, taking moderate exercise such as brisk walking and aiming to lose a couple of pounds a week is tough, but more achievable than a juice diet and five sessions a week at the gym.
